Sociolinguistic Characteristics of Toponymy of Samarkand Region

Abstract
In this article, the lexical-semantic, nominative-motivational features of the toponymy of the Samarkand region, the historical formation, and the roots of formation are sociolinguistically researched. Also, the article talks about the ethnogenesis of some toponyms in the region and the social, political, and historical processes that influenced it. Toponyms from the Sugdian, Turkic, Arabic, Persian, Mongolian, and Russian languages are analyzed.
