Abstract

The article discusses some problematic and controversial issues related to the hierarchical relationship of language and speech units. The main provisions of the article reflect the author's specific approach to contradictory views on the naming of units considered as a unit of language, their essence and study in linguistics. It clarifies views on phonemes, morphemes, words and sentence.
